Life After
Death: The Burden of Proof (Hardcover) by Deepak Chopra
In this book, Deepak Chopra gives us an intriguing look at both
the scientific and spiritual aspects of life after death. For
several years I've been looking for a book that helps to reconcile
the afterlife with what we are learing in the field of quantum
physics and this book comes as close to offering a cogent analysis
as anything I have seen.
Using a Hindu folk tale about death as a springboard, Chopra examines
issues related to Near Death Experiences, Reincarnation, Remote
Viewing, ESP and many more by examining the areas in which Science
and the Vedic Tradition merge. This book is enjoyable to read,
but requires a little time to digest. Although written from a
Hindu perspective, Chopra takes the time to discuss other spiritual
traditions, including Christianity and Buddhism. This will be
a wonderful addition to your collection of philosophical works.

Being and
Time: A Translation of Sein and Zeit (SUNY series in Contemporary
Continental Philosophy) (Paperback) by Martin Heidegger
Martin Heidegger paved the road trod on by the existentialists
with the 1927 publication of Being and Time. His encyclopedic
knowledge of philosophy from ancient to modern times led him to
rethink the most basic concepts underlying our thinking about
ourselves. Emphasizing the "sense of being" (dasein) over other
interpretations of conscious existence, he argued that specific
and concrete ideas form the bases of our perceptions, and that
thinking about abstractions leads to confusion at best. Thus,
for example, "time" is only meaningful as it is experienced: the
time it takes to drive to work, eat lunch, or read a book is real
to us; the concept of "time" is not.

Kosmic Consciousness
[UNABRIDGED] (Audio CD) by Ken Wilber
"Just who is Ken Wilber?" For more than 30 years, a rising tide
of readers enthralled by this visionary philosopher’s map of human
potential have asked this question about the famously "low profile"
author. Finally, early this year, Wilber—the author of A Brief
History of Everything and Grace and Grit—agreed to create a series
of in-depth dialogues on audio for the first time ever. The result
is Kosmic Consciousness: a landmark recording that invites us
to experience a full-length audio learning course with this celebrated
thinker. Listeners will be surprised and delighted to discover
the Ken Wilber behind the writer’s pen—spontaneous, irreverent,
and incredibly passionate about how each of us can participate
in the unfolding of human consciousness.
Through over 12 hours of revelatory insights, Kosmic Consciousness
explores: The integral map of the Kosmos (the universe that includes
the physical cosmos as well as the realms of consciousness and
Spirit), the pursuit of the Good, the True, and the Beautiful,
discovering your "multiple intelligences", using altered states,
male and female sexuality, how meditation accelerates personal
growth, prayer, does it work?, integral perspectives on individuals
spanning Jung to Piaget, Baryshnikov to Nietzsche, Jesus to the
Buddha, and much more.

The Holographic
Universe (Paperback) by Michael Talbot
There is evidence to suggest that our world and everything in
it. . are also only ghostly images, projections from a level of
reality so beyond our own it is literally beyond both space and
time." Hence, the title of his book. Beginning with the work of
physicist David Bohm and neurophysiologist Karl Pribram, both
of whom independently arrived at holographic theories or models
of the universe, Talbot explains in clear terms the theory and
physics of holography and its application, both in science and
in explanation of the paranormal and psychic. His theory of reality
accommodates this latest thinking in physics as well as many unresolved
mind-body questions. This well-written and fascinating study is
recommended for science collections.

The Meme Machine
(Paperback) by Susan Blackmore
Over a decade ago, Richard Dawkins, who contributes a foreword
to this book, coined the term "meme" for a unit of culture that
is transmitted via imitation and naturally "selected" by popularity
or longevity. Dawkins used memes to show that the theory known
as Universal Darwinism, according to which "all life evolves by
the differential survival of replicating entities," applies to
more than just genes. Now, building on his ideas, psychologist
Blackmore contends that memes can account for many forms of human
behavior that do not obviously serve the "selfish gene." For example,
a possible gene-meme co-evolution among early humans could have
selected for true altruism among humans: people who help others
(whether or not they are related) can influence them and thus
spread their memes.
